Project Gallery

Washington, DC

This highly specialized facility was designed to store short term and long term evidence and house the Evidence Control personnel for the Metropolitan Police Department. The facility contains high-speed 30 ft tall storage shuttles, 80 ft long x 30 ft high moveable aisle shelves, secure drug and valuable storage as well as refrigerated storage for DNA samples. The new customized storage systems provided over 200,000 cf of storage, and all of the evidence in the previous 70,000 sf storage facility was able to fit in the new warehouse with room for expansion. This Design Build project also included the computer software system that was used to track each piece of evidence, including its status and location within the warehouse. This computer automated inventory tracking software was integrated with MPD’s existing software systems. The project was required to be LEED Silver, but was awarded LEED Gold by USGBC due to extra efforts and design considerations.
